I don’t really bother with my hair, I hardly brush it let alone style the mop; however there is one product that I love.

Looking grotty with Tesco shoppers, I ventured into the white and clean world of Space NK to treat myself to a bottle of Bumble and Bumble Surf Spray.

I am a beach girl at heart; primary school days ended with parents picking us up with buckets and spades in their arms. Nothing beats a day ending watching the sun set over Welsh sea, and I always loved being wrapped up in a towel with salty, matted locks, my hair never looked cooler. And that is still true. My face shape doesn’t warrant poker straight, tussled and tossled is when my hair looks best.

I have tried many texturising hair products and Bumble in Bumble is the only one that truly gives the authentic day-on-a-beach look without making your hair as stiff as cardboard.

At £16 it has to be a treat, but with the alternative being a £40, 5hr train journey back to Wales and Broad Haven beach it has got to be worth it. It’s just a shame that I am dying of flu currently; mole eyes and a red nose don’t look hot, even with beach fabulous hair.

I exfoliate once a week with Kirsty Mcleod’s Clarifying Clay Exfoliator, it has fine clay particles which I think are much more efficient than the bigger, slightly scratchy ones. In the morning I wash my face with the Dr Alkaitis cleanser and most of the time just put Ila Face Oil all over my face neck and back of my hands to moisturise (the smell is gorgeous so I don’t need a perfume).

After the shower I love the Korres Fig Body Butter as it smells lovely and the moisturiser lasts all day. When I wake up looking like the last chicken in Sainsbury’s I slap on a bit of the Rodial Brazilian Tan, which is lovely.

The best way to hide a hangover is with the 3 Custom Colour Clarifying pencil. It is flesh coloured and you draw it across your lower eyelid shelf and it hides the redness and makes you look more awake and younger. I never did understand that fashion for putting white liner there that just makes one look a bit loopy!

COSMOPOLITAN BEAUTY AWARDS

We attended the Cosmopolitan Beauty Awards last week and were thrilled to meet lots of beauty movers and shakers, Alexis Inge from Cult Beauty among them, and she agreed to take part in our "Beauty Minute" interview. The ultimate prize winners were YSL Touche Eclat (not a shocker, especially since most of the women in the room looked as if they were wearing it) for "Classic Award" and L'Oreal Paris Derma Genesis Cellular-Youth Nurturing Skincare (the longest product name in history) for Beauty Breakthrough Award.

I was a little surprised to see that the classic brands going stronger than ever and doing a great job in keeping up with the market and ahead of the trends. For example, the Best Colour-Rich Lipstick winner was the Givency Rouge Interdit, and the Reader's Choice (Readers Kiss of Approval) for Ultimate Lipgloss was the Lancome Juicy Tubes. For Best Foundation, Chanel was the winner with the impeccable Chanel Mat Lumiere Long Lasting Makeup. All this goes to show that the younger brands have a long way to go still, they were not featured throughout as I would have expected. Is the beauty business still a game only for the big and powerful? Where are the little "gem discoveries"? Where are the up-and-coming brands? They are not winning awards, not yet anyway...

In the hair category I was happy to see some of my favorites. The Kerastase line, which I have been a fan of for a long time since their products seem to be the only ones to overpower my hair's reluctance to behave sensibly. Kerastase got the award for the Best Frizz-Controller with Kerastase Creme d'huile Oleo-Curl, and Best leave-in treatment went to Kerastase Noctogenist (which I still have to try...)

I am a self-confessed nail polish junkie. From a young age I have rarely been without a coat of something swashed upon each nail. I used to hit the chemist after Primary school and stock up on 50p polish in the most garish colours possible; orange, lime green, yellow, baby blue…my nails have seen it all.

Now my collection has reduced significantly and I have gone over to the dark side. I like to wear my nails short and black; I constantly get taunted for being a goth but I consider black a classy and chic colour. My current obsession is Chanel. At £14.50 a bottle it is pricey, but unlike cheaper brands it stays looking beautiful for up to a week and goes on streak free.

Apart from my ‘Black Satin’ I do own some colour. I picked up a vibrant coral and electric blue from Sephora whilst in Barcelona, the juicy colours were too tempting to leave on the shelf! And sources at Barry M have revealed that colour is hot this summer; bright colours look great with a tan and add interest to any outfit.

If you are too timid to adorn your hands with neon flashes, simply go down to your toe nails. On a night out I noticed that a couple of my friends had gone for the brights and the colour totally pulled together their entire look. This blue looks fabulous with the leopard print heel and red adds another dimension to the gladiator sandal; an easy way to change your look.

Festival Beauty

It could be argued that there are more pressing matters to deal with at a festival than beauty, namely finding one’s tent or avoiding catching something nasty from a portaloo - however there is no need to leave the make-up bag at home as there are some super products that will withstand the rock, roll and mud.

A tinted moisturiser should be packed into every hiking sack; coverage without caking they are easy to apply and look fresh and natural. My choice Benefit YouRebel now comes in a two shades and has an SPF 15, which is essential for the outdoors girl - red noses are not a good look on anyone.

Abandon mascara and instead invest in a good crayon eyeliner, Dior Backstage Make-up does an excellent waterproof black that comes with a handy sponge applicator. Smudge on and don’t bother removing at night for ultimate rock chic.

Walking around Carnaby Street today I came across this girl, who I think has a great look. The longest lashes I've ever seen (I should have asked which brand), and the smudged glossy lipstick gave her a very fresh, sweet glow. She has the kind of face that can take a lot of makeup without looking overdone. The lips are not pink nor red, they are the perfect hue!

Today I want to talk about these two looks. Posh is not someone I would hold in the highest regard when it comes to makeup but I am loving the nude, glossy lips in this photo!

And Gwyneth looks fabulous, here eyes look amazing in the cover of V! the colours look so rich and I think this look is powerful and extremely mmodern. I am not sure if a brunette could pull it off, but it looks fabulous on G!

Mascara that peels off...

It seems that the trend right now is mascara that peels off... Fuitybeauty mentioned the Clinique version, which looked like a little insect legs on her sink when removed... Loréal has a version too, the New Double Extension Beauty Tubes. I have tried eyeliners that peel off, but having this technology in mascara is an excellent thing... I don't wear that much mascara because it's so hard to remove and this solves it!

YSL's lips were deep black this AW08/09, the colour of choice for his clothes as well,and lovely Lily Allen has embraced the look with gusto. It suits her! I don't think black lips suit a lot of people, and they are not a colour that can be worn to just any event. but sometimes, if you are young and your skin is very pale and your hair very dark, you may get away with it...

Barry M just sent an email around promoting their new eyeliner pens. I love the bright colours! I recently became a fan of eyeliner pens because they are really easy to apply and easy to remove. I have been using a Clarins pen and when it dries, I can just peel it off, which I love! I will have to test these and let you know more later...

I think it's no secret that I am a big fan of Alexa Chung's look. She is so classic, yet she manages to inject effortless cool into anything she wears. Her makeup is always charming and she is full of that Hoxton "je ne sais quoi"...

I came across this pic at ELLEUK.com where I enjoyed reading about what Alexa has in her makeup bag...

I was especially amused to read that her favorite mascara is Great Lash mascara, £4.99 by Maybelline (which can be found at Boots). This item seems out of place next to brands such as La Prairie, but what have we learned about makeup from so many beauty experts out there? That price doesn't mean much when it comes to makeup. So many formulas are exactly the same, repackaged in different ways... If you have any favorites that fall under the £5 bracket, let us know!

The Hard Candy Look with Madonna

I was just thinking how Madonna's new look for her Hard Candy CD is so different and striking (the amazingly smooth pale skin, the very thin and pale eyebrows, the enhanced eyes)! I was trying to figure out how she does it and found a great explanation in BellaSugar takes from www.drownedmadonna.com (below):

FACE: Begin by prepping your face with a serum, moisturizer, and eye cream. Then add a primer and medium-coverage firming foundation such as Estee Lauder Resilience Lift Extreme Ultra Firming Makeup. Finish with a creamy concealer and an eye brightener. Tip: use a cosmetic sponge to ensure that everything is well blended.

CHEEKS: Cheeks should have only a smidgen of bronzer to the areas of your face that are naturally kissed by the sun. Use a gentle hand and then apply a peachy-pink blush such as The Balm Hot Mama to the apples of your cheeks, following the natural contour of your cheekbones. For a radiant glow, add a liquid luminizer to your forehead, tip of your nose, and the top of cheekbones steering clear of the tiny wrinkles just under your eyes.

EYES: Sweep your favorite champagne eye shadow all over the lid and with a windshield-wiping motion, apply a copper color (such as Korres 22S Orange) in the crease. Line your upper and lower lashes (heavier on the top) with a golden black liner such as Nars Night Clubbing and then apply two coats of mascara. Line the inside of your eyes with a white liner. If you feel your lashes look a little wimpy, feel free to add a few lash pieces to the outer corners of your eyes for added fullness. (Trim them so that they blend in better.)

LIPS: Apply a pale semifrosted pink lipstick such as Heidi Klum's Very Sexy Perfect Lipstick in Heidi and then sweep a golden-pink lip gloss like Dior Addict Ultra Gloss Reflect Lip Gloss in Jersey Pink on top. Rock on Madonna fans.

I had read about this eyeliner on the web for a while and they even have a colour in the range called Popstar, which works for us... it's an amazing white! I know this range has been available for a while in the States but I had not found in the UK and Jessica at Prestige sent me a couple of samples. it’s an excellent product… it washes off easily, dries quickly, the colours are really fun and and bright. I recommend it!

Ok, I am running late here with this new craze but I only saw my first few episodes of Gossip Girl last night... and I could not get over the fact that Serena is just too old to be in high school! She looks 25 to me and her outfits seem a little silly. She is supposed to be just back from boarding school??? c'mon, give me a break!

But her nemesis on the other hand, Blair (Leighton Meester), is perfect on the role. She looks the part and I love her makeup in general. Here are a few looks I found.

The current trend in packaging is having illustrators design beautiful images to adorn the tubes of all sorts of cosmetics. It is a very effective way to take a product to the next level since beautiful illustration immediately make the product look sophisticated and feminine. I selected some of the most evident ones for this image: Christopher Kane's Juicy Tubes for Lancome, Fresh Faced products (which bases its whole look on illustrations, one of the precursors of this trend), Jelly Pong Pong's Dainty Doll, their new line with Girls Aloud Nicola Roberts, and Mac's Fafi...

Katie Melua, who in my opinion always wears great makeup, dramatic eyes and smooth skin, has revealed her beauty favourites in the Evening Standard Magazine:

YSL Touche Eclat, Jo Malone Vitamin E Gel and Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Gel Eyeliner can be found in her makeup bag.

She says she loves red lips but the only way she can achieve the red she likes is by using acrylic paint (yikes!) I think that's a bit drastic... Perhaps she should try Lipstick Queen (Sold at Space NK) in shade Saint Red.

She gets papered by buying a Boots 99p face mask, which she says makes her feel like a teenager having a girl's night in...

Her favourite treatment is Avon Planet Spa Mediterranean Olive oil Hot Hair Treatment.

Katie's beauty tip is to find a feature of yourself you like and enhance it... In her case it seems to be her eyes.

It was announced earlier this week that Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussy Cat Dolls fame is endorsing a new body wash by Caress called Brazilian Exotic Oil Infusions

As part of the promotion she also has remade the Duran Duran song "Rio".

I went to Benefit today and bought myself a jar of their new Erase Paste. I have huuuge dark circles under my eyes, I always look tired. The lovely Holly at the Fouberts Place store (here in London) applied some to my face and it was as if I had napped for hours! I love it! I have to say, it beats the clinique concealer in terms of colour-matching.

Fresh Cannabis Rose

I have to say, the name of Fresh's new fragrance, Cannabis Rose, definitely spiked my curiosity... Especially at a time when the company is putting final touches in their rebranding effort. It makes me wonder the direction they are headed! Is it hippie chic? Is it 80's revival? I will only know once I get to try it... But one thing I know: being owned by LVMH, I am sure the risks are very well calculated!

Mac's New Pro Store Concept...

The shop is filled with MAC's full retail line plus the MAC Pro line, on the second floor of a historic building in Manhattan's Flatiron District. Described as “a collection of cutting-edge products designed for professional makeup artists”.

Bodyrox, Luciana and the blue eyeshadow

Ok, maybe I am a little late on this video, Bodyrox featuring Luciana, I just saw it today and it was released a little while ago... but the reason I am mentioning it is that Luciana, looking beautiful, is wearing blue, the colour hot for this Spring, on her eyes.

According to Vogue, it's all about Baby Blue eyes this Spring. Spring eyes are light and bright and it's a good idea do have a couple of shades and mix them up to achieve different looks.

I am a huuuuuge fan of Gwen Stefani, her awesome style and her looks, not to mention her music. She has come up with a great look for her LAMB cosmetic line and now, coming up, Harajuko Lovers, her new collection of adorable fragrances.

"The scents are all inspired by Stefani's views of her backup singers. Love is described as "sweet, caring, free-spirited and always off in her own little world." Lil' Angel is "constantly looking out for others," but is no saint. Music is "always looking to make someone laugh" and is "charismatic." Baby is "enticing in her frilly innocence." (And, naturally, G is the leader of the pack.)

This will sound like blatant advertising... but I swear it is not: I was asked the other day about my skin, last year, in August I got fed up with all the recurring pimples and bumps on my face and decided to start using the Clinique. My sister had been using it and recommended. I was skeptical at first, the products are pricey, but I decided to try (I tend to listen when my older sister gives me advice... Stop smoking. Cigarettes wreak havoc on your skin, and Amy’s is showing it. While you’re at it, I’m not saying she does anything specifically, but if she did, lay off the hard drugs too. These things are a surefire way to make you look old, tired, and give your skin a gray cast with huuuuuuuuuge pores.
Ditch the lip ring. I understand Amy’s style is “rocker”, but the lip ring is more of a “I just woke up with this in my face” look.
Tone down the cat eyes. I love black liquid liner, and would never ask Amy to give it up. But using a more flattering shape and pairing it with more polished lips and face makeup would make her sultry and classically sexy, not like she forgot to wash her face after Dita Von Teese’s birthday party. She can keep her rocker spirit by adding some more intense colors to her makeup.
Chop off the beehive. I understand it’s her thing. The thing is, it’s a stupid thing. Ditch it and move on. It’s not 1965. (Besides, don’t you love my Kelly Kapowski take on her hair?)

I am a big fan of Avon for it's price and convenience... and I found some great products in their website over the last few years. I managed to find the best products to achieve Leona Lewis' look in this photo:
Leona usually opts for a discreet, muted lip, and this shade she is wearing is very close to Avon's GLAZEWEAR Liquid Lip Color , especially the Darling Pink shade.

Avon also has great eye shadows, and again, Leona keeps it muted. Some of my favorite are Crystal Aura Eye Color.
